Legendary gospel artist Yaw Sarpong’s son, Kwame Sarpong, has broken his silence for the first time since his father’s passing on January 20, 2026.

During an interview on Peace FM, he reflected on his father’s last days and shed light on the circumstances leading to his return to the family home shortly before his demise. Kwame clarified that the decision to bring Yaw Sarpong back from Bishop JY Adu’s residence, where he had been under care, was already in motion before the unfortunate passing of Maame Tiwaa, a member of the Asomafo band.
Despite the coincidence in timing between their visit and Tiwaa’s death, Kwame emphasised that the two events were unrelated. He mentioned that Bishop JY Adu had advised against informing Yaw Sarpong about Maame Tiwaa’s demise to protect his well-being. Kwame remained uncertain whether his father was eventually informed about the loss. Yaw Sarpong’s sudden death has deeply impacted the Ghanaian music scene, striking just a little over a month after the passing of Maame Tiwaa on December 7, 2025.
