Medeama lead the Ghana Premier League after an important Matchday Six victory.
Ghana Premier League: Medeama Lead as Hearts of Oak Move Second
Medeama SC strengthened their position at the top of the 2026–27 Ghana Premier League with a 3–1 victory over Heart of Lions, while Hearts of Oak returned to winning ways with a narrow 1–0 win against Port City FC during Matchday Six.
The results, reported by the Ghana Football Association and Ghana News Agency on October 12 and October 11, respectively, have increased the pressure on clubs attempting to keep pace with the leading sides.
Medeama moved to 14 points from six matches, opening a three-point gap over second-placed Hearts of Oak. The weekend also produced important results elsewhere in the league, including a victory for Swedru All Blacks over Asante Kotoko.
Medeama show their attacking strength.
Medeama’s win over Heart of Lions was built around an effective attacking performance. Emmanuel Annor opened the scoring before Kingsley Braye scored twice in the second half, giving Medeama a commanding advantage.
Heart of Lions managed a consolation goal, but Medeama held on to secure all three points and continue their unbeaten start to the campaign.
The result is significant because early-season consistency can help clubs establish a strong position before the league becomes more demanding. Collecting points regularly also reduces the pressure to recover from avoidable setbacks later in the season.
However, an unbeaten run does not guarantee future success. Medeama will still need to manage injuries, maintain concentration and produce results against different opponents as the competition develops.
Hearts of Oak return to winning ways.
Hearts of Oak secured a 1–0 victory over newly promoted Port City FC, with Frank Duku scoring the decisive goal. The win came after a difficult run of results and moved the Phobians into second place.
A narrow victory can be valuable in a competitive league because it rewards teams that defend effectively and take advantage of key opportunities. For Hearts, the priority will be to turn this result into a more consistent run rather than relying on isolated wins.
The club’s supporters will be looking for improved performances in upcoming matches as the team attempts to maintain its position near the top of the table.
Asante Kotoko suffers a setback.
Asante Kotoko lost 1–0 to Swedru All Blacks, with Eric Darkwah converting a late penalty to decide the contest. The result gave the Swedru All Blacks an important three points and left Kotoko needing a response in their next fixture.
Defeats early in the season can create pressure, but they also provide opportunities for teams to identify weaknesses and improve. Kotoko’s response will depend on how the technical team assesses the performance and prepares the squad for the next match.
Other notable results included Bechem United’s 4–2 victory over Vision FC and Berekum Chelsea’s 3–0 win against Debibi United. Karela United defeated Dreams FC 1–0, while Bibiani Gold Stars beat Basake Holy Stars 2–0.
What the results mean for the title race
Medeama’s three-point advantage is an encouraging start, but the league remains competitive. Hearts of Oak will aim to stay close, while Kotoko and other clubs will seek to improve their positions over the coming weeks.
The table can change quickly as teams play more fixtures. Supporters should therefore pay attention to confirmed results and updated standings rather than drawing firm conclusions from one matchday.
What comes next?
The next round of fixtures will provide another test of Medeama’s consistency and Hearts of Oak’s recovery. Clubs that lost this weekend will also be looking for a response.
For supporters, the important questions are whether Medeama can maintain their unbeaten run, whether Hearts can build momentum and how Kotoko respond after their defeat.
TuneOn will continue following Ghana Premier League results, fixtures and major developments involving the country’s football clubs.
