Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has reportedly lodged a complaint with FIFA against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the termination of his contract in March 2026. A report by JoySports on Saturday, October 31, says Addo is seeking more than US$750,000 in compensation, bringing renewed attention to the contractual and administrative issues surrounding his departure from the national team.
What the report says
According to JoySports journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, Addo made several attempts to secure payment from the football association before escalating the matter to FIFA. The report states that he signed a 34-month agreement with the GFA in March 2024 and was earning a reported monthly salary of US$50,000.
JoySports says Addo had 10 months remaining on the agreement when the GFA ended his appointment in March 2026. The former coach is reportedly seeking compensation connected to the outstanding period of the contract. The precise amount and the legal basis of the claim will need to be established through the relevant process.
How Addo’s second spell ended
The GFA announced on March 31, 2026, that it had parted ways with Addo following Ghana’s friendly defeats to Austria and Germany. The Black Stars lost 5-1 to Austria before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Germany. The decision came during preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and attracted significant attention because of the timing.
Addo had returned for a second spell as Ghana coach in March 2024. He had previously led the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. His second tenure ended after a difficult run of results and Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
What happens next?
A complaint to FIFA does not by itself mean that either party has been found legally responsible. The governing body’s relevant dispute-resolution process would have to consider the contract, the circumstances of the termination, any settlement discussions and the evidence submitted by both sides.
As of the time of publication, the GFA had not issued a public response to the reported complaint. It also remains unclear whether the parties reached any financial agreement when Addo left his position. TuneOn Radio will update this story if an official statement or further verified information becomes available.
Why the case matters for Ghana football
The reported dispute highlights the importance of clear employment agreements and transparent procedures when national-team coaches are appointed or dismissed. Football associations and coaches both need to understand their contractual obligations, including notice periods, termination clauses, outstanding wages and possible compensation.
For Ghanaian football supporters, the matter is another reminder that decisions away from the pitch can affect the public image and administration of the national team. The focus now turns to any formal response from the GFA and the next steps in the FIFA process.
