On January 13, 2026, Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo scored his second goal while playing for Manchester City, helping the team defeat Newcastle United 2-0 in an EFL Cup semifinal first-leg match.

The Black Stars forward merely joined the English powerhouses from AFC Bournemouth last Friday. The next day, he made his debut by scoring in the team’s 10-1 English FA Cup victory over Exeter City.
Semenyo, who is still getting used to life at the Etihad, started the cup game against Newcastle but was quiet the whole first half.
Following the break, he found space inside the box to meet a well-weighted pass from Bernardo Silva, opening the score in the 53rd minute. The attacker scored to give City the lead while maintaining his poise.
Ten minutes later, the Ghanaian believed he had doubled his total when he struck from close range in response to a tempting corner delivery from Tijjani Reijnders. But after a VAR review declared the goal out for offside, the festivities were short-lived.
Long into stoppage time, Rayan Ait Nouri’s pick of Rayan Cherki inside the area gave Manchester City the victory.
The custodian was rendered powerless by the midfielder’s quick strike into the net, giving City a two-goal lead going into the second leg.
Antoine Semenyo is having a fantastic start to his Manchester City career, scoring two goals in his first two games.
