The Black Stars defeated Mali 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium after being beaten to a 1-1 draw away in Chad. These outcomes contributed to their increased international recognition.
Nonetheless, Ghana continues to hold its 14th-place ranking in Africa, maintaining its position there.
As the Black Stars get ready to wrap up their 2025 schedule with pivotal World Cup qualifying matches against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October, head coach Otto Addo will be hoping to build on that success when his team returns to action later this year.
Ghana hopes to win the fifth World Cup.
After eight games, Ghana leads Group I with 19 points, having won six of them with one draw and one loss each. With 15 points, Comoros is in third position in the group rankings, whereas Madagascar, in second place, is only three points ahead of them.
After eight games, Mali, who were regarded as the Black Stars’ most formidable opponent in the group, have only scored 12 points and are currently eliminated from the running for automatic qualifying.
Since their debut in 2006, the four-time African champions are attempting to earn their fifth FIFA World Cup berth. When Russia held the Mundial in 2018, Ghana was the last country to miss it.
