Negotiations are underway for Nottingham Forest to hire Sean Dyche as manager.
After Ange Postecoglou was fired, Dyche is the front-runner to take over as Forest’s next head coach, and the Premier League team hopes to finalize a deal on Monday.
Seventeen minutes after Forest’s 3-0 Premier League loss to Chelsea on Saturday, Postecoglou was fired.
After just one victory in eight league games during what has been a turbulent season, Forest is currently ranked 18th in the standings.
According to sources close to the appointment, Dyche’s chances of landing the position have greatly increased over the weekend, and he has had encouraging discussions over the last 24 hours.
While Fulham manager Marco Silva is admired but bound by contract, Roberto Mancini has also had conversations with Forest officials.
Given that Forest has already spent money firing Nuno Espirito Santo and Postecoglou this season, Silva’s contract also has a sizable release clause that has become a consideration.
Another known concern is whether Silva would be willing to leave Fulham in the middle of the season.
According to sources, Dyche is currently the only contender because Silva was difficult to appoint, and Mancini’s initial interest is thought to have waned.
The managerial whirlpool of Forest
Nuno was fired by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis after just three games of the season, and Postecoglou took his place.
The Australian’s tenure at Forest was the shortest permanent managerial tenure in Premier League history after he failed to win a game and was fired 39 days after being appointed on September 9.
In the late 1980s, Dyche was a member of Forest’s youth team, and Brian Clough was the manager, but he never played for the first team.
Since Everton fired him in January after less than two years in charge of the Toffees, he has not held a managerial position.
In his 75 Premier League games as Everton’s manager, Dyche led the team to 17th and 15th place with wins of 21, losses of 31, and draws of 23.
Before that, Dyche managed Burnley for almost ten years, from October 2012 to April 2022, during which time the Clarets won promotion to the top flight twice and made it to Europe for the first time since 1967.
Additionally, he managed Watford for a season in 2011–2012 before losing his position due to a change in ownership.
Dyche, who was born in Kettering, played defender outside of the top flight for the entirety of his playing career, appearing in over 500 games for teams like Chesterfield, Bristol City, Millwall, Watford, and Northampton.
